The telecommunications giant, Verizon, joins San Francisco CalHeat on its journey to the 2023 IHF Super Globe in Dammam, Saudi Arabia (November 6-12).
Deeply immersed on the US sporting scene, Verizon will be our team’s prime sponsor during this prestigious international handball event. “It is an incredible honor to stand side-by-side with such a renowned organization. Verizon has shown genuine curiosity in our sport over the last several years and we couldn’t dream of a better partner to accompany us on this mission” says our president, Jean-Marc Junique.
Handball isn’t unknown to Verizon as the firm headquartered in New Jersey is already the main sponsor of USA Team Handball and supports their national teams on the international stage. Besides, Verizon’s CEO, Hans Vestberg, also served as the chairman of the Swedish Handball Federation from 2007 to 2016.
The IHF Super Globe is a handball competition contested between the champion clubs from each continent and eminent handball powerhouses such as FC Barcelona Handbol and SC Magdeburg (2022/23 EHF Champions League Winner). This is the second participation of our club in this competition after 2021.
This year’s competition will bring together a total of 12 teams from all over the world: SC Magdeburg (Germany), Vive Tauron Kielce (Poland), FC Barcelona Handbol (Spain), Füchse Berlin (Germany), San Fernando Handball (Argentina), Al Ahly (Egypt), San Francisco CalHeat (USA), Al-Najma (Bahrain), Kuwait SC (Kuwait), University of Queensland (Australia), Khaleej Club and Al-Noor (Saudi Arabia, hosts). Our team will start the competition on Wednesday, November 8 against the Asian League Champion, Al-Najma. Full schedule can be found here.
Together with Verizon and our other partners, we will try to bring the U.S. and the North American continent their first ever win in the competition.
History awaits…
